Do you practice Self Care?

Updated: Jul 9, 2020

Practicing self care can be tricky.

Here at Laughing River Yoga, we want to help you practice self love and encourage you to be patient with yourself on your journey.

There is an unfortunate ideology that associates self care with being selfish or self centered, when in fact it is the most considerate thing you can do for yourself and others. Life gets loud sometimes, so being present can be difficult. Here is your gentle reminder to take care of yourself. You cannot pour from an empty cup.

1. Welcoming Positive Affirmations through Meditation

We’ve all heard, “think happy thoughts,” but sometimes that’s just not enough. Practicing Meditation independently or with a positive group of people has proven to be valuable to one’s mental health. Meditation helps keep the mind sharp, relieves stress and anxiety, and can strengthen your immune system.

At LRY we encourage you to come as you are. To join us in your honest and true form to learn, grow and prosper. We believe in unconditional love and that when it is practiced you can reconnect with yourself.

Laughing River Yoga hosts Meditation and Conversation: Meditation, Readings, and Sharing every Sunday from 10:15 to 11:15 AM. To learn more, click the link!

2. Remembering to Breathe

There are multiple benefits to deep breathing exercises. These benefits include; improved blood flow, increased energy levels improved posture, reduced inflammation, improved digestion, as well as reduced stress and anxiety, to name a few.

We believe in the power of Yoga to heal. When taking classes that pay close attention to breathing patterns you are healing your mind, body, and soul.

LRY offers classes such as Vinyasa that “focuses the practice of consciously linking the movement of the body to the movement of the breath. Classes are a moving meditation during which the breath acts as the seamless connection between all experiences.”

3. Treating Yourself

The cold season takes a toll on everyone in different ways. Sometimes the best way to indulge in self care is to take a much needed break from reality. A yoga retreat is the break you’ve been searching for. A yoga retreat can be healing for your mental and physical health. Going on retreat can change your life, it allows you to grow in a new setting. “You can not heal in the place that hurt you.” By going on a retreat you are embracing the opportunity to explore yourself. It gives you the chance to heal any mental and emotional issues you may be experiencing.

No one is free until we are all free. This is a core belief and tenant at LRY.

“The tenant 'no one is free until we are all free', originally written by Fannie Lou Hamer, acknowledges our inter-dependence. When we use the tools of yoga and meditation to explore who we are, we recognize our connection with others and that our well-being depends on their well-being.”

Laughing River Yoga offers various retreat options welcoming in the new year. If you’d like to learn more about the details of each retreat click here.

Self care and self love are fundamentally essential. At LRY we are devoted to having positive energy in each of our classes along with a welcoming studio environment. We will not tell you to leave your baggage at the door, but instead bring it with you to work through at your own pace in the safety and comfort of LRY.
