Benefits of Reiki by Mackensey Smith

If COVID times have taught us anything, it’s that now more than ever we need support for our health and wellbeing. Not only that, but we need practices that are simple and accessible. I can tell you, Reiki has been one of the things that has saved my sanity this year. This portable, gentle modality is one that has been around for thousands of years and for good reason.

So What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy-healing technique used to promote health and well being. “Rei” translates to spiritual wisdom while “ki” translates to life force. One of the well known forms of Reiki healing is known as Usui/Holy Fire Reiki which comes from the lineage of Mikao Usui (often considered the father of modern day Reiki) and William Lee Rand (Usui Reiki teacher and introduced Holy Fire Reiki to the world). Through the channeling of spiritually guided life force energy, Reiki healing is accessible to all and has several key benefits:

1. Respects free will and heals deeply without distress.

While many other healing modalities can be intense or activating, Reiki is known to be a gentle energy that is imbued with a spiritual intelligence that goes only where it is needed. In almost every single one of my clients who receive Reiki there is a marked difference in relaxation and ease after a session. Traditionally, Reiki is administered through laying hands gently on the body and can be done without touch just as effectively. The blend of therapeutic touch and warm, soothing energy makes Reiki a go-to for stress and anxiety relief.

2. Promotes self-healing

Reiki works by introducing balanced, life force energy into a person’s energetic field which promotes a resonance within the energy body to achieve healing. Thus, Reiki is a self-healing modality. It encourages healing of mental and emotional dis-ease, replacing it with a sense of safety in a most pronounced way. Common issues that Reiki assists with are anxiety, depression, worry, stress, fear, confusion, grief and loss. Also, it’s great for physical ailments such as cancer or injury. It is even frequently used in hospice and hospital settings to promote faster recovery.

3. Enhanced Spiritual Connection

Reiki is a spiritual practice as much as it is a healing modality. By increasing the free flow of universal life force energy throughout your nervous system, you are able to connect deeper to your spiritual purpose, higher power, and expand your conscious awareness. Reiki can also spontaneously provide spiritual guidance in and of itself. I have watched students from all walks of faith and life use Reiki meditation as a way to amplify any spiritual practice by grounding and opening one up to greater trust of the unseen.

If you’re curious about trying this gentle, energy healing technique, join Mackensey for a Reiki Meditation class this Wednesday, Nov 18 from 7:45-8:30pm at Chace Mill.
