June at LRY: PRESENCE

The human brain produces upwards of 60,000 thoughts per day, most of which are the same ideas and beliefs repeating and repeating (aka our patterns). Most of these thoughts are a fixation on the past or a projection into the future.

Meditation and yoga practice help to observe mental patterns, meet ourselves with compas

sion and non-judgement, as well as disrupt and reroute repetitive thought patterns. Our practice also helps to discern which thoughts are not our own and have instead been given to us through socialization and dominant culture. For example, the guilt I experience when choosing rest over productivity (“I should be doing more”) is the product of internalized capitalism, not a thought of my own creation.

Most importantly, yoga practice expands our self-knowledge so we can move beyond the limiting patterns of the mind to feel into the possibilities of the present moment. Sensing the breath in the body is an evergreen invitation to center presence, to feel more alive to life, to wake up, to get unstuck, to get free.

Do you know what your patterns are that hinder you from being fully present in your life?

with love,

Christina + LRY

I don't think I have 60,000 thoughts a day! Is this certain? Head Soccer

Through regular yoga practice, we gain a deeper understanding of ourselves, which in turn allows us to let go of mental limitations run 3
