This month YTT focused on the Yamas & Niyamas and Anatomy.
Yamas are restraints (actions towards others) and Niyamas are observances (actions towards yourself). We discussed the importance of the Yamas and Niyamas as teachings to take responsibility for our actions in the world, which can bring us closer to moving through the world with love. They become the tool to bring us to the end goal of yoga: oneness.
Over the next month, each YTT student will work with one Yama and one Niyama to explore its meaning through personal experience as well as through reflection on the text Living Love: The Yoga of Yama and Niyamas by Maetreyii Ma Nolan.
The remainder of the weekend, led by Malaika DosRemedios, focused on deepening each student’s understanding of anatomy as it applies to yoga. We had fun by using small group work, lectures, and games to work through the material. This allowed students to leave the weekend with confidence and empowerment on both a gross and subtle understanding of functional movement of the body/mind connection.
