The Yoga Sutras are the foundational text of Classical Yoga. Classical Yoga is also known as the Royal Path, the Path of Meditation, The Path of Concentration, and Ashtanga Yoga (the eight limbed path). It is based in the dualistic framework of Samkhya Philosophy. The Yoga Sutra text contains 194 sutras or aphorisms, which are said to have been compiled by the great Yogi, Patanjali. These aphorisms describe the goal of yoga, list the obstacles to attaining yoga, and outline the path to overcoming these obstacles.
In this two hour discussion based workshop we will explore the key concepts that comprise the underlying philosophy of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Please come with an open curious mind, and any questions that you have.
Sofi is an advanced certified Jivamukti Yoga instructor who has been teaching Yoga since 1997.
Often described as a ‘teacher’s teacher, Sofi brings to her classes the wisdom and psychology of yoga philosophy derived from her many years of scriptural study.
Sofi teaches both private and group classes in the greater Burlington area and travels nationally and internationally to teach workshops. She is the co-founder/director and lead teacher of the Laughing River Yoga Teacher Training Program and sits on the board of The Center For Mindful Learning.
