We’re honored to have Nicolas Thornbro as part of our yoga studio community. This March, Nicolas is our student of the month. Here’s a little about why we think he’s so special. Nicolas wrote this response to some questions we asked to get to know him better. Thank you Nicolas for being you!
“I’ve been practicing yoga for a year and a half. I started practicing yoga so my body could let go of the trauma from three years of warfare overseas. Some of my close friends said I should go to yoga, open my hips, and cry! Haha. Now, I practice in an effort to stay centered and focused, both mentally, and physically.
I chose LRY because it seemed like the place a yoga studio should be located. I had no idea what I was doing, so honestly, it was fate guiding me through.
When I’m not doing yoga I spend my time taking care of my chickens! Playing with my dog, Banana. And, attempting to not bring down the wrath of my cats, Bear and Blu. In my professional life I am a non-clinical social worker for the chittenden county veterans population.
My favorite hobby would be a toss up between making pottery and fly-fishing. Both arts require incredible amounts of patience and humility before you truly find your stride. There is also a simplicity in pottery as you move the clay with your hands. I feel as though it gives voice to the grounding we seek in our yoga practice. I also enjoy photography, but I’m not at the point of putting my work out there to be judged, yet. It’s a bigger step than one would think! And, I love Greek food! Of all the places I’ve visited, Greece had the best food.”
